What should I prepare?

...and what should you expect?

Before your first lesson, you will be required to fill out a simple web questionnaire. If you are not able to complete this before the first session, we will take the first few minutes of the scheduled session to do so.

(You can view the form here.)

If we are meeting online, your session can be audio and video recorded by you for later review. If we are meeting in person, please come prepared to record your lesson with a voice memo app on your phone, tablet, computer, etc. Recording your lessons in Evernote could be quite helpful for archiving if you are familiar with it already.

For web lessons, scroll to the bottom for a little further detail.

Vocalists: This is not an audition so there is no need to be nervous, but do come feeling prepared and confident so I can see you at your best as you are right now. Lessons are a safe, judgment-free zone. There is no "bad" or "good." I do ask that you bring a song to share for your first session. After you have scheduled a session, you will be given complete and detailed instructions to assist you with this.

Instrumentalists: If you are a beginner and have never played anything on your instrument before, there is no need to prepare anything other than the questionnaire. If you have a little experience in your instrument, please prepare a little something to play for an initial evaluation. This is not an audition so there is no need to be nervous, but do come feeling prepared and confident so I can see you at your best as you are right now. Lessons are a safe, judgment-free zone. There is no "bad" or "good."

*IMPORTANT!*

Students must be committed to practice in between sessions. I can give you tips, pointers, and guidance, but you will not improve with lessons alone. If the only time you are practicing is during your lesson, you're wasting your money and it's going to take a lot longer to get what you want out of your lessons.

At the end of each lesson, you will be given 1-3 things/assignments you should prioritize in your practice or music-work before our next meeting. Sometimes this will be annotating music, memorizing lyrics, or practicing specific passages with particular exercises. If you neglect to complete your assignment(s) between meetings and come unprepared, I reserve the right to stop and cancel the lesson on the spot without a refund.

Note: Not being prepared is not an acceptable reason to reschedule- or cancel-without-notice as outlined in the cancellation policy. Invest the time and focus in yourself and make it work!

*FOR WEB LESSONS:
Class will be administered through ZOOM, which is an easy-to-use video conferencing software that can be used from any mobile device or computer with access to cellular service or internet. If this will be your first time using ZOOM, I recommend signing in way in advance of the meeting time to create an account, download the necessary app for your device, and test your audio and video inputs.
